Summary
When Jaguar unveiled the new XJ6 saloon in Paris in October 1968, the Coventry-based company's great hopes rested on this model, which was bound to bring in big sales. And of course, no expense was spared to make the XJ both sporty and comfortable. The career of the four-door model, which was of course also built with a twelve-cylinder engine, lasted 23 years. This driving report is dedicated to the early XJ6 4.2 Series 1 and shows it in many winter and historical photos as well as in the advertising of the time.

The XJ6 was presented to the public as a 2.8 and 4.2-liter at the Paris Motor Show in October 1968. The Jaguar XJ6 had little in common with its predecessors. The self-supporting body was a new design that was geared towards both comfort and safety. Despite the new lines, the car was immediately recognizable as a Jaguar, with the large wheels and the indicated rear fenders harking back to the past. The front axle was also completely new. Trapezoidal wishbones provided the wheel guidance, while new dampers and a special movement geometry allowed an anti-dive effect, i.e. prevented excessive diving under braking. At the rear, the modified independent wheel suspensions were adopted from the 420 G, but with an increased track width for even better handling characteristics.
