In 1987, the American pop band "The Bangles" reached number 1 in the German charts with their catchy tune "Walk like an Egyptian" and the women wore thick shoulder pads and wide girdles. What was going on on our streets back then? There, sporty cars were still allowed to be adorned with huge rear wings without immediately appearing "politically incorrect". Sporty saloons and two-door models such as the BMW M3 from the E30 series and the Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 were all the rage when Ford took to the stage at the 1985 Geneva Motor Show with the Sierra RS Cosworth. The body choice fell on the variant with two doors, tailgate and five seats. Its task was to repeat the successes achieved by the Capri in the seventies and eighties and to claim victories in Group A touring car races.
