Summary
With the Miura, Lamborghini had presented a modern mid-engined sports car and pissed off Ferrari in the process. However, the Commendatore did not respond with a similar concept, but instead launched the front-engined Ferrari 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" coupé on the market in 1968. The sales figures proved him right. This vehicle report tells the story of the elegant Granturismo and shows it in many current and historical pictures.

Preview (beginning of the article)
With the Miura, the sports car manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini had turned the sports car world on its head and finally introduced the mid-engine. The world eagerly awaited Enzo Ferrari's reaction, but when the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona was presented in Paris in 1968, people were surprised to see that the classic Granturismo design with front engine had been retained in Modena. It was not until 1971, when Ferrari presented the successor to the Daytona with the designation 365 GT/4 BB (Berlinetta Boxer), the series production of which did not begin until 1973, that a series production road sports car with a twelve-cylinder engine in front of the rear axle was also available from Ferrari. And this was probably still too innovative for some buyers, because on August 11, 1975, the factory delivered a ruby red Daytona to the dealer M. Gastone Crepaldi in Milan, around two years after production of the 365 GTB/4 had been discontinued.
