It is one of the rarest Italian production vehicles. It is quite possible that only one hundred roadworthy examples still exist. Alejandro De Tomaso wanted to conquer the world of top limousines with the Deauville. This driving report tells the story of the four-door car, which is now over 50 years old, and shows it in current and historical images as well as in the sales literature.

Do you drive it yourself, or do you let yourself be driven? This question is not easy to answer in a Rolls-Royce or even a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. With the De Tomaso Deauville, however, it is immediately clear that you want to get behind the wheel. After all, it comes from an Italian sports car manufacturer and was designed by one of the great designers of the 20th century (Tom Tjaarda). So we slide into the driver's seat and turn the key to the right of the steering wheel. The Ford V8 engine in the front is immediately audible. We put the lever of the three-speed automatic to "D" and set off.
