An interesting vehicle is the DB3S Coupé, which was built on chassis number DB3S/105. The open DB3S was converted into a coupé by Panelcraft of Putney (coachbuilder from London) for Lord O'Neill of Belfast. The basis for the coupé was a DB3S with a 2nd SU carburettor, which had previously been owned by Graham Whitebread, who found the car too slow. The lightweight Borrani wheels with central locking came from a vehicle driven by Peter Collins. According to contemporary reports, the vehicle impressed with its exceptional performance, but the noise level was very high. Due to its short length, the passenger compartment was very cramped and space for long legs was limited. Obviously, it also got very hot inside. The rear axle was a de Dion consruction, which acknowledged fast cornering with an audible shake and was inferior to more modern designs such as the DB4. Overall, however, the DB3S coupé was described as a very potent and interesting vehicle.
