Audi 80 L - rounded off The renewed Audi 80 presented in 1976 looked like a small Audi 100. Although the factory made few changes to the popular mid-size saloon, it looked significantly different and was also better equipped. No wonder, it continued the success story. Even the entry-level engine was by no means poor. This driving report is about an Audi 80 L from 1976 and shows the car in historical and current photos.

Sometimes less is more. One example of this is the facelift of the Audi 80, which not only gave the B1 model series a modernized exterior in 1976, but also two additional years. What's more, 55 hp was already enough to get the car up to speed. In July 1972, Audi presented the new Type 80. The successful Audi 100 had allowed the car manufacturer with the four rings to develop a more compact mid-size saloon, which it did in 1969. However, the new car was to appear not only as an Audi, but also as a Volkswagen (Passat), which meant that three body variants of the same basic type could be offered within the Group: Sedan, hatchback sedan and station wagon.
