Summary
At the beginning of the 1950s, if you wanted to cover long distances quickly with five or even six people in the car, there was really no way around the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500. The competition was thin on the ground and the sporty GT from Milan was an exceptional, but also elitist vehicle. Sixty years later, the 6C models are coveted classics. This report portrays an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Gran Turismo from 1951, tells the story of the model's development and shows the series in current and historical photos.

Preview (beginning of the article)
In the early fifties, the choice of fast touring cars was limited. If you were in a hurry on the road, required a lot of space and were financially well off, you had the choice between a Delahaye 135 MS, a Talbo Lago Record or an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Gran Turismo. If he opted for the Alfa, he received a five- to six-seater, two-door Berlina with 105 hp and a top speed of 160 km/h for 32,000 francs, making him one of the fastest on the road. In the 1930s, Vittorio Jano developed a new six-cylinder model with 2309 cm3 and initially 68 or 76 hp as a low-cost alternative to Alfa Romeo's successful eight-cylinder model. The first version of the "6 C 2300", presented in 1934, was still based on the chassis of its predecessor, but the following year the "6 C 2300 B" appeared with a newly developed frame chassis with cross member, independent front suspension and rear swing axle.
