Summary
Between 1979 and 1986, Alfa Romeo built the Type 119 saloon, known as the "6 2.5". The engine was a new development and, with six V-shaped cylinders and six downdraft carburetors, was a special feature at the end of the 1970s. The conservatively designed saloon was not really successful on the market, in stark contrast to the engine, which powered many Alfa models until the new millennium. This vehicle report describes the history of the Alfa Romeo 6 and portrays an example from 1980 in many pictures, supplemented by historical photos and brochures as well as a sound sample.

Anyone who was enthusiastic about Alfa Romeo in the 1970s but did not want to do without the comfort of a six-cylinder luxury saloon was not offered a solution in the Milanese manufacturer's range until 1979. This changed with the appearance of the four-door model known simply as the Alfa Romeo 6, but the all-new top-of-the-range model was denied comfort. Six-cylinder engines have a long tradition at Alfa Romeo. Even in the pre-war years, sports drivers were queuing up for the famous 6C models, which were still being built into the 1950s. After a few years of abstinence, it was succeeded in 1962 by the Alfa Romeo 2600, of which there was also an OSI version between 1965 and 1967.
