For once, B was followed by A, i.e. Group B was followed by Group A. Initially, the new rally cars were significantly slower, but with investments, engineering efforts and a relaxation of the regulations, the achievable speeds and times in rallies were soon back to the usual level. Lancia initially had the best grip on the new racing class, but the Japanese upgraded and eventually won the championship. The Group A period in the World Rally Championship lasted 10 years, and John Davenport and Reinhard Klein have dedicated a comprehensive compendium to it, which forms the basis of this book review.
