Home game for Porsche: on July 20 and 21, 2019, the "Solitude", a former race track just outside Stuttgart, comes back to life for a weekend. At the "Solitude Revival", the Porsche Museum will send legendary racing cars onto the closed-off circuit, which is located just 15 kilometers southwest of the main plant in Zuffenhausen, for a few demonstration laps.
Among others, a 550 A Spyder from 1956, in which Hans Herrmann contested the "Solitude" in the same year, and the 356 B Carrera GTL Abarth (1961), which will be driven by rally legend Walter Röhrl, will be at the start.
The 718 Formula 2 from 1960, which is reminiscent of the first formula race at "Solitude", will also be racing on the Ring. John Surtees took second place in this racing car in the 1960 Solitude Grand Prix. Two years later, Dan Gurney won the Formula 1 race here in a Porsche 804 (1962). Neel Jani, Le Mans winner in 2016, will present it at the "Solitude Revival". Jani's former team colleague Marc Lieb will drive the 917 KH in Gulf colors from 1970, as will motorsport icon Hans-Joachim Stuck.
A visit to the paddock is also worthwhile: if you want to experience Porsche racing drivers past and present up close, the Porsche Museum tent offers the best opportunities. In addition to former Porsche works driver Herbert Linge, in whose honor a special run of the "Solitude Revival" bears his name, racing legend Hans Herrmann is also expected to attend. Eberhard Mahle will be celebrating an anniversary on this occasion: 60 years ago, the racing driver started here with three different cars. He won two of the three races. Visitors will also be able to talk to the two former Porsche engineers Günter Steckkönig and Hans Clausecker.
The sports car manufacturer will also be presenting other exhibits and offers from the museum store. With the "Solitude Revival" ticket, spectators also pay only 4 instead of 8 euros for admission to the Porsche Museum. This offer is valid until December 31, 2019.
The "Solitude Revival" is an event to demonstrate historic racing and road vehicles on the former Solitude Ring near Stuttgart, which consists of public roads and is specially closed for the occasion. Among others, there will be racing motorcycles and racing motorcycle sidecars up to 1979, racing and sports cars up to 1947, racing sports cars and prototypes from 1948 to 1979, GT and racing touring cars from 1948 to 1979 and formula racing cars from 1948 to 1976. All information about the event can be found online at www.solitude-revival.org.
