The "Lugano Elegance" event will take place for the sixth time from May 21 to 23, 2026. Previous editions have been very well received A number of innovations were presented at the press conference in mid-March 2026.
"Our philosophy," explains Lugano Elegance organizer Paolo Pedersoli, "is based on an event format that aims to appeal to different generations and interests in the vintage world. We believe in the power of the past and the ability to revive emotions through tangible experiences."
New: A humanoid judge with artificial intelligence
One of the most important innovations of the 2026 edition is an absolute world premiere in the Concours d'Elegance sector: the presence of a humanoid robot equipped with artificial intelligence that is invited to give its opinion. The system analyzes the vehicles based on codified criteria - model history, authenticity, historical design, aesthetic quality and state of preservation - combining visual analysis with historical data.
The project is the result of a collaboration with ATED - Ticino Association for Digital Evolution, which developed the AI agent. According to ATED President Lukas Mauriello, the aim is to create a dialog between tradition and innovation: "Even in the world of classic cars, where the past plays the leading role, technology can offer new tools to interpret and enhance automotive heritage." The prize awarded by artificial intelligence is transmitted virtually by the system itself, through a process that integrates visual analysis, historical information and criteria of elegance. The pedal car race for children is also designed with the very young in mind.
Among the initiatives aimed at expanding the event's audience is a new activity specifically for children: a race with pedal cars for children is scheduled for Saturday, May 23. The initiative was launched to introduce younger generations to the world of classic motorsport in a fun and practical way. The aim is to build a bridge between the tradition of classic cars and the future of automotive passion. The participants compete against each other in a symbolic race, which concludes with an official award ceremony.
A training program for apprentices
The Biasca Technical Professional Center (CPT) will also be taking part in the event with a training project involving students from the fields of mechanical engineering (SPAI) and fabric processing (SAMS). The trainees will work closely with the competition judges, helping to supervise the vehicles on display and actively participating in the organization of the event. For Director Davide Pedretti, this is a concrete example of applied vocational training.
Over the years, the offer has aroused the interest of students: several participants have developed a passion for the world of classic cars, prompting the center to introduce new training days specifically dedicated to the theme of "classic cars". A youth prize will also be awarded in 2026, an award given by the students to the car they consider to be the most elegant according to their personal taste.
The car of honor
In keeping with tradition, the event will once again present an honorary car in 2026. The model was chosen for its symbolic and historical value. It will not take part in the official competition, but will be presented in a special presentation.
The car, provided by PKB Privatbank, dates back to 1915 and is equipped with a six-cylinder engine with a whopping 14.5 liters of displacement and 130 hp. All the details will be revealed to the public on Saturday, May 23, in Piazza Riforma.
With the support of the city
For Mayor Michel Foletti, Lugano Elegance is an event that has generated demonstrable benefits for the region over the years. "The event helps to revitalize the city centre with a positive atmosphere," notes Foletti, emphasizing that the Concours also has a noticeable impact on businesses and, above all, the tourism sector. According to the mayor, the associated industries include hotels, restaurants, stores and services, which help to strengthen Lugano's image as a dynamic and attractive tourist destination.
After all, the canton of Ticino can look back on a long tradition in international motor racing, where personalities such as Clay Regazzoni, Silvio Moser and Loris Kessel have made significant contributions to Swiss motor racing history. Lugano Elegance is therefore also an opportunity to honor and celebrate this heritage, and Regazzoni's winning car from the 1970 Italian GP in Monza, the Ferrari 312B, will be on display.
There are still places available for special cars for the 2026 edition of Lugano Elegance from May 21 to 23, 2026. You can register directly on the website. All further information about the event can also be found there.
