As part of London Motor Week, RM Sotheby's is auctioning 64 automobiles with a total estimated value of 30 to 40 million pounds on November 1, 2025. Around a third of the lots will be offered without a reserve price, including the highest valued: an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 with a Zagato-style spider body.
It is no longer possible to say with certainty whether the red bodywork was once really made by Zagato. It was originally mounted on a 6C and only found its way onto the shortened eight-cylinder chassis as a result of an error in the early 1980s. At the time, it was assumed that the heavy cabriolet body, reminiscent of a Horch, was a later conversion.

Today we know that the German first owner had it built in 1937 by the August Nowack coachwork factory in Bautzen, which makes 412011 the only Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 to be built in Germany. With the false, but in the eyes of most potential bidders certainly more attractive Spider bodywork, between 3.5 and 5.5 million pounds are expected for the pre-war eight-cylinder.
Rarities and restoration objects
With two fewer cylinders but a verifiably correct Touring body, the portfolio includes an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport Spider from 1932, which is expected to fetch between 800,000 and 1.2 million pounds, barely a quarter of the price of the re-bodied 8C.
According to estimates by the auction house, a total of 13 lots are expected to reach the millions. The third pre-war vehicle alongside the two Alfa Romeos is a 1929 Bentley Speed Six with a Freestone & Webb body based on a Weymann patent. The black limousine is one of only two surviving examples of its kind and remains unrestored to this day. Between 800,000 and 1.3 million pounds are expected to be paid for this one-off.
The SS 100 from 1939, on the other hand, has already spent more time in restored than unrestored condition. However, the retreading carried out in 1969 also needs to be refreshed in the meantime. At least that is what the vehicle description in the auction catalog suggests. Regardless of personal plans regarding the car, interested parties should have between 200,000 and 250,000 pounds ready.
US attractions
Replica Shelby Cobras are rarely found in the catalogs of renowned automobile auctions. In the case of the example offered by RM Sotheby's in London, however, an exception seems justified. On the one hand, the light blue right-hand drive car was built back in the 1960s, and on the other hand, an "original" Cobra chassis from an accident car formed the basis of the new build. Accordingly, the estimate of 250,000 to 350,000 pounds for a replica is comparatively high.
The Iso Grifo up for auction also has a special feature. Here, the usually redundant addition "by Bertone" is justified for once, because the dark red coupé is one of the first 50 examples to have been built by hand in Turin and not in the Iso factory in Milan. As a unique selling point, the 1969 Iso was equipped with the 370 hp LT1 V8 from Chevrolet, which was upgraded by Baldwin-Motion Performance after installation. The Italian-American is expected to fetch between 380,000 and 460,000 pounds.
Young millionaires
With an average age of 72, the supply of younger vehicles is correspondingly low, but no less attractive for that. In London, for example, a grand-prix white Porsche 911 GT2 from 1996 goes under the hammer. A new owner will probably have to pay between 1.1 and 1.3 million pounds. The tame brother of the famous Ruf "Yellowbird" is already available for a good tenth of that (GBP 120,000-150,000): a 1979 Porsche 911 SC, which was converted into a Ruf 3.4 CR in Pfaffenhausen in 2014.
Four cars in the catalog are less than five years old. The two most recent - a Ferrari 812 Competizione A from 2023 and an Aston Martin Valkyrie from 2024 - are nevertheless among the most expensive lots in London at £1.3 to 1.5 million and £2.25 to 2.75 million respectively. With an average estimated price of around 560,000 pounds, the price level is relatively high. However, only 13 of the 64 cars are definitely above this mark.
Detailed descriptions and further images are available online in the auction catalog.
