Michelin offers competition tires for numerous historic racing and rally cars, and the product range also includes numerous tires for young and classic cars. The spectrum ranges from tires for vehicle models from the pioneering era of the automobile to the first radial tires from the late 1940s and youngtimer tires. In total, the Michelin range comprises over 80 different tire types in a wide variety of dimensions and designs for around 300 vehicle brands. In this way, Michelin makes it possible to preserve a piece of automotive history.
Each year, the company produces around 100,000 tires for this market segment. In France, Italy, Serbia and Mexico, Michelin maintains special production lines that regularly reissue historic tires in small series. Michelin's specialists reproduce the tires of classic cars exactly. However, Michelin uses state-of-the-art technology for the rubber compounds, carcasses and nylon threads - in favor of greater durability, lower rolling resistance and greater safety.
Originality is the trump card
"With Michelin tires for historic vehicles, we meet the demands of many classic car enthusiasts who attach particular importance to the original condition of their vehicles. Our tires not only meet the high demands of classic cars, but also offer the highest level of contemporary safety," explains Michelin classic car expert Michael Welsch.
Brand new in the range are tires for classic cars such as the BMW E30, Audi 80 and VW Golf. "The Michelin model range extends from widely used tire models from the 1930s such as the Michelin Superconfort and the Michelin Double Rivet to the world's first radial tire, the Michelin X from 1946, which set a new industry standard for passenger car tires. We have also reissued the Michelin TRX, which is always in demand for BMW and Ferrari vehicles," adds Markus Hassa from the Motorsport/Vintage Division.
