On January 30, 2026, Bonhams auctioned 66 automobiles and a scooter in Paris. Almost half of the lots, estimated at a total of 13.5 million euros, are offered without a reserve price. On average, the vehicles are a good 60 years old and worth around 200,000 euros.
Expensive Citroën, cheap Ferrari
But even for less than half that amount, there is a lot on offer with 25 cars and a Lambretta sidecar. With a bit of luck, you can even get the Citroën 11 Légère from 1951 for four figures. As the cheapest car in the auction, it has been estimated at between 5000 and 10,000 euros. However, this is not the only opportunity for a bargain, as there is no reserve price for anything under 100,000 euros.
With five models, Citroën is the third most popular brand in the catalog after Ferrari. In addition to a Kegresse track car (EUR 20,000-40,000), a Citroën SM is also on offer, the engine of which is said to have been modified by the well-known specialist Georges Regembeau. However, the catalog does not explain what exactly was modified (40,000-60,000 EUR).
Two Citroën DSs from the Ateliers Henri Chapron are likely to be the most expensive vehicles in the double angle. One is a factory-built convertible from 1961, which has been estimated at 130,000 to 170,000 euros; the other is the quirky "Majesty" notchback saloon, of which fewer than 30 examples were built. The 1966 model offered by Bonhams comes from many years of ownership by the family of the coachbuilder himself and is expected to fetch between 125,000 and 150,000 euros.
The Ferrari offer from Bonhams is surprisingly popular. The cheapest way to buy a twelve-cylinder car from Maranello at auction in Paris is a silver-grey 365 GTC/4 from 1971 for an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 euros. At the other end of the spectrum is a gray 330 GT 2+2 from 1966 for 180,000 to 230,000 euros. In between are two red Ferrari Testarossa (EUR 150,000-200,000) and a yellow 575 Maranello (EUR 100,000-120,000).
Mercedes millions
The only two "millionaires" in the auction are from Mercedes-Benz, although for once the 300 SL is not the most expensive car. The black coupé with red interior is expected to fetch 1.2 to 1.5 million euros. Although not as delivered (silver-grey with blue upholstery), the color combination is undoubtedly attractive. The "long" rear axle, on the other hand, is factory-original, but not necessarily suitable for everyday use.
At 1.5 to 2.5 million euros, it is clearly surpassed by a Mercedes-Benz 500 K with coupé bodywork by Vanvooren, which was acquired by Swiss collector Pierre Strinati in 1959 and has been in his possession ever since. Despite its rather idiosyncratic proportions, the one-off, which has just been delivered to Paris, is sure to find a new owner - especially as it is being offered without a reserve price.
Two Mercedes-Benz 300 S coupés and cabriolets also make a nice pair. Both are from 1953, whereby the version without a roof (EUR 325,000-375,000) is expected to be more expensive than the one with a roof (EUR 250,000-300,000), although the Coupé (216 examples) is significantly rarer than the Cabriolet (760 examples).
Contradictions and mysteries
Lovers of pre-war German rarities are likely to be enthusiastic about the Wanderer W 25 K Roadster, which after 88 years shows only comparatively mild signs of wear on the outside and inside. However, the vehicle description in the auction catalog contradicts itself somewhat with "very original condition" and "probably an older restoration". This criterion actually has a not insignificant effect on the price. But whether restored or not - Bonhams sees the price for the currently unroadworthy roadster somewhere between 100,000 and 150,000 euros.
The 1952 Jowett Jupiter has undoubtedly been restored and, according to the auction house, can be had for a tenth of that amount. The green convertible also comes from the Strinati collection, where it has been since 1966.
Three years longer in the Swiss collection is the Voisin C30 on offer with streamlined bodywork from an unknown workshop. The beige-colored mystery has been estimated at 225,000 to 275,000 euros.
European V8 exotics
No Paris classic car auction without a Facel Vega. At Bonhams, a Facel II from 1962 represents France's post-war flagship brand. Unusually for the large coupés with Chrysler engines, the example on offer is equipped with a manual four-speed gearbox. The price is estimated to be between 140,000 and 190,000 euros.
If you prefer Chrysler technology with an automatic gearbox and Italian bodywork, take a look at the 1953 "Thomas Special" with Ghia sheet metal bodywork. The one-off, designed for Virgil Exner, was once built for Chrysler's export manager C. B. Thomas. The two-tone, five-seater coupé is priced at 330,000 to 390,000 euros.
Four off-road vehicles and a bus
Generally treated somewhat neglected, the Paris Bonhams offer includes four off-road vehicles (not counting the Citroën C4 Kegresse). The latest and most expensive of the quartet is a Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG from 2018. The white G-Class with black and white Designo equipment is expected to fetch between 115,000 and 145,000 euros.
For half that price, you could also get the three other four-wheel drive vehicles in the catalog: a Willys Station Wagon from 1952 (EUR 10,000-15,000), a Land Rover 109 Station Wagon from 1966 (EUR 15,000-20,000) and a Toyota Land Cruiser BJ42 from 1984 (EUR 45,000-55,000).
For the remaining money (60,000-70,000 EUR) you could probably buy the Alfa Romeo F12. Although it doesn't have all-wheel drive, it has room for even more passengers and luggage.
Further information on the vehicles on offer as well as many additional pictures can be found in the auction house's online catalog.
