From 29 June 2017, the 8th Arlberg Classic around Lech presented an extremely extravagant starting field for the classic car sector and once again made its motto its program: with friends through dream Alpine scenery.
The 8th Arlberg Classic Car Rally came to an end in the garden of the Hotel Arlberg on July 1, 2017. The winners were presented with their prizes at a gala dinner in a glass tent. 110 classic cars from 1917 to 1974 were on the road between Arlberg and Zugspitze for three days as a rolling museum.
After 600 kilometers and 17 special stages, the overall victory went to the extremely successful German duo Prof. Dr. Dr. Peter Krieglsteiner and Christian Krieglsteiner in a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE.
And two pre-war vehicles also made it into the top ten of the overall classification, including Georg Weidmann with Curt Bloss in a 1929 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Open Tourer.
Cars up to 1975 and only mechanical watches were allowed to compete. A "year of manufacture coefficient" ensured that earlier cars also had a good chance of finishing in the top places.
Lech Zürs has been organizing the Arlberg Classic Car Rally for eight years under the motto "With friends through dream Alpine scenery". Even experienced classic car enthusiasts are thrilled every year by the extravagant field of participants, which in 2017 alone boasted 40 legends from the pre-war era, including the Gorki GAZ-GL 1, a Russian racing car from 1938, of which only 12 were ever built.
The rally, which has now become a classic in its own right, once again ran completely smoothly and even the weather, over which the organizers have no influence, was kind to the event with a few minor exceptions.
