Solitude GmbH, which specializes in organizing anniversaries, attached great importance to a wide range of vehicles when selecting the exhibits. For example, in addition to various standard CSLs, rivals from the racetrack of the time are also on display. In 1971, the BMW 2800 versions from Alpina and Schnitzer did not give each other a single meter on the tracks.
Reunited again
50 years later, initiator Tobias Aichele was delighted to see the 300 hp cars come together again at Motorworld Region Stuttgart. The two coupés went down in history as the most luxurious racing cars and ultimately led to the Munich-based company deciding to produce a stripped-down coupé in 1971. Project management was entrusted to Alpina, which drew up a plan comprising more than 20 points, including aluminum hoods and doors. 1000 units were planned. This number of units was required to homologate the lighter version as a touring car in Group 2.
The 3.5-liter CSL racing versions were the pinnacle of the success story, with the four-valve engines delivering over 450 hp on the road. On display in the exhibition is the winning car from the 1976 European Touring Car Championship, won by Team Tuigi with a vehicle prepared by Schnitzer.
Hans-Joachim Stuck's race winner as a highlight
The highlight, however, comes from the factory museum, namely the 3.5 CSL in which Hans-Joachim Stuck and Chris Amon won the 6-hour race at the Nürburgring on July 8, 1973.
The BMW 3.0 CSL concept ultimately gave rise to BMW M GmbH in 1972, which was headed by racing driver and automobile manager Jochen Neerpasch until 1979.
The exhibition also does justice to this bridge, with changing exhibits such as a 635 Group A racing car from Hartge, an M1 or the brand-new M3.
The pop-up event "50 years of the BMW 3.0 CSL" is presented by Solitude GmbH featured by COMCO with the support of infact.digital in the workshop hall of Motorworld Region Stuttgart in a showroom measuring around 220 square meters.
