The book "Klingenring-Bergpreis der Jahre 1966-1984" by author Andreas Seidel was published in the fall of 2016. On October 3, 2017, the sequel was published with the title "Klingenring-Bergpreis 1966-1984 - in pictures...!".
The 244-page work is very image-heavy, often with full-page images, and has over 450 photos in black and white and color. The individual chapters each describe one of the nine sections of the former racetrack, starting with the old paddock in Solingen-Wupperhof and ending with the new paddock in Leichlingen-Orth. With up to 12,000 spectators per race weekend at times and a total of over 1,300 participants from 1966-1984, the Klingenring Hillclimb Prize was one of the biggest hillclimb prizes in Germany.
The foreword was written by the former German hill climb champion of 1970/71, Walter Struckmann, who was one of the most successful hill climb drivers in Germany in the 1960/70s.
With two exceptions (1966, October and 1975, November), this annual highlight in Solingen motorsport always took place on the second weekend of the year, in mid-September.
There were 18 races in total, interrupted only in 1972 because there had been a fatal accident the year before. Stringent requirements imposed by the state authorities and additional environmental regulations made it impossible to hold another hillclimb event in Solingen or Leichlingen after 1984.
If you drive around the Klingenring these days and take a closer look to the left and right, you will notice that the relics of past racing days are still there, and the memories of one of the most beautiful hill climb events in Germany still live on.
Nevertheless, over 1300 drivers from 1966 - 1984 tried their luck at the Klingenring.
Reason enough to bring a little racing atmosphere back into your living room and to review the most beautiful impressions of this event in pictures with this illustrated book.
