A rare Ford V8 from 1938 is for sale - the car comes from private ownership and has been preserved with great care over the decades. The characteristic front end and the teardrop-shaped headlights make it one of the most beautiful years ever for many Ford enthusiasts. The legendary Ford V8 Flathead engine contributes to the fascination of early V8 Fords.
About the vehicle
The 1938 Ford offered here tells a story. Born in 1938 in Antwerp, Belgium, delivered to Switzerland in the canton of Vaud. The identification number on the inside of the hood suggests that it was delivered to an officer in the Swiss army. The further whereabouts and history were never investigated in detail.
General condition & paintwork
The Ford is in good general condition. The previous owners attached great importance to preserving the original substance. Large parts of the body still have the original paint. Some of the fenders have been repainted. There is no rust to be found on the bodywork. Although the paintwork is dull and matt and shows signs of spotted damage, it can be polished to a shine.
Mechanics
The vehicle has been maintained and preserved with great care. The brakes were replaced a few years ago and still have enough lining for many trips. All defects have been repaired by the owner in a specialized garage.
This Ford was originally delivered with a 2.2L 60HP Ford Flathead engine. In order to protect the small engine, the larger 3.6L 85HP engine was installed 3 years ago. The big one was rebuilt from a NOS engine block. The known cracks in old blocks are therefore not an issue here. The conversion was possible without major modifications. In the course of this, the gearbox was also renewed / overhauled.
The original engine (matching number) has been preserved and is included in the purchase price.
The Ford is freshly presented and is used almost daily in good weather. The engine modifications have been checked and registered.
Interior
The seats were reupholstered in beige leather about 6 years ago, the soft top was also upholstered in matching beige fabric.
