An American dream
€
For sale is a real American dream, an easy rider on 4 wheels, a fastback of the first generation, carefully restored in the look of a legend, the Ford Mustang Fastback Shelby G.T.350H, with manual transmission!
In May 2010, the Mustang was restored as a 1965 C-Code Ford Mustang Fastback in the USA down to every detail frame-off and converted into a Shelby G.T.350H. The 289cc V8 engine (4.7l) delivers between 200 and 210 hp on the test bench.
In April 2012, the Mustang was imported to Switzerland and perfected to Swiss standards in Zurich and presented as a veteran. The car is regularly driven in good weather and often starts on the first ignition, even without a choke. A car battery isolator switch is fitted for longer periods of downtime. The Mustang can be fueled with unleaded 95 gasoline. Although I check the oil level regularly, I have never had to top up the oil. In addition to the annual service, restoration work (56 working hours in total) was carried out on the underbody and the radiator was replaced in the summer of 2024. The Mustang will be kept all year round and is ready for a test drive.
The sale price includes an expert opinion, customs documents, a car brochure from 1965, various receipts, an original jack, a spare wheel, a car pajama and individual spare parts. I will be happy to answer any questions about the vehicle or the reason for the sale by phone, e-mail or in person.
And now some historical background information:
In 1964, an attractively designed coupe developed specifically for teenage drivers was presented to the public at the World's Fair in New York. This sporty and affordable Ford Mustang, the progenitor of the "pony cars", was available from April 1964. In 1965, a high-performance road version of the Mustang built by Carroll Shelby, the GT 350, appeared with a 4.7-liter V8 engine. The car rental company Hertz ordered 1000 examples of the GT 350 H (H stands for Hertz) in black with gold trim to be able to rent out "racing cars" to customers, who very quickly took a liking to the exceptional 306 hp Mustang. The program launched by Hertz was called "Rent-A-Racer". The Shelby G.T.350H could be rented for $17 a day.
These G.T.350Hs are very rare and highly sought after today. Shelby made 936 of these cars; about 800 in black, and about 50 each in red, white, blue and green. The black cars all had gold stripes, while the colored cars only had Shelby stripes on the sides and not the Le Mans stripes across the hood, roof and rear.
Hertz ended the cooperation with Shelby prematurely, as many "weekend racers" rented the cars and used them to the utmost. As a result, the maintenance costs became so utopian that Hertz pulled out prematurely and not all of the 1,000 vehicles ordered were actually delivered.
