Under the sign of Scorpio
Let's get straight to the point: Abarth has probably the most convoluted history of all car manufacturers. Karl Abarth (November 15, 1908 - October 23, 1979) shaped European automotive history like no other and was the inventor of a completely new branch of industry - the tuning industry.
The company Abarth & C. was founded in Bologna on March 31, 1947 by former motorcycle racer Karl "Carlo" Abarth and financial backer Armando Scagliarini. Unlike many other tinkerers and tuners of the time, "il mago - the magician" not only had petrol in his blood, but also business acumen. Immediately after its foundation, the company dedicated itself to the sale of silencers and complete exhaust systems. Every family car, no matter how ordinary, was tuned with an exhaust from Abarth and people liked to show off with a scorpion sticker on the rear of their vehicle.
Born in Vienna, he also produced countless small series vehicles, racing cars and special models. He mostly used the tried-and-tested Fiat technology, modified the engine and chassis to his liking and had his designs fitted out by the best design studios in Italy. High-caliber names such as Allemano, Boano, Bertone, Ghia, Giugiaro, Scaglione, Vignale, Viotti and Zagato were among his partners and companions. He also cooperated in motorsport with the major car manufacturers Fiat and Simca and drove to over 7,300 class victories for the two manufacturers. Between June 1956 and October 1966, the vehicles developed by Abarth set a total of 113 speed records in various engine capacity classes on the Monza racetrack. Carlo, born under the zodiac sign of Scorpio, was an eccentric who always explored the limits of what was technically feasible and did not shy away from the impossible.
One of his most successful transformations was the Fiat-Abarth 850 TC, the abbreviation for "Turismo Competizione". The vehicles were built by Fiat and delivered to the hallowed halls of Carlo Abarth without the specific components modified by Abarth. At least 1,000 vehicles had to be produced and sold in order to obtain a starting license in the then popular touring car class. Although it is doubtful whether 1,000 identical vehicles were actually produced, the Fiat-Abarth 850 TC was granted a starting license. With the 850 TC, Carlo Abarth created an almost unbeatable weapon in small-volume touring car motorsport and won a total of seven one-make championships.
We are proud to offer this original Fiat-Abarth 850 TC. The fighting dwarf comes from a private collection, has always been professionally maintained and is in excellent condition. The registration on December 6, 1962 suggests that the first owner gave himself a very special pre-Christmas present. The engine, modified by Carlo Abarth, produces a whopping 52 horsepower at 5800 rpm from a displacement of 847cc. The original 13-inch magnesium rims from Campagnolo look fantastic on the Abarth and are almost impossible to find today. The red leatherette interior has been faithfully restored to its original splendor. Naturally, the vehicle is being sold fresh from the MFK including veteran's registration. Take advantage of this rare opportunity and "experience" the myth of Abarth.
