It was not long before sports and racing versions of this model appeared* An interesting point is that the rear suspension of the original Sevens employed quarter elliptic springingo A similar, but much improved, form of this suspension is used on the new Sprite. The Sevens soon won popularity especially after their successes on the race track. Gaining 168 awards in 1921+ they were reaching speeds of 81+ m.p.b. SEVEN SPORTS As a direct result of the racing successes of the Sevens, an Austin Seven sports car was marketed in 1928o This was a modified version of the racing Ulsters, being sold at £185 or, as a supercharged version, at £225*. Engine capacity was 71+7 c.c. and output 2k boh„po at 5»000 r.p.m0 (blown 33 boh.p. at 5,000 r0p8mo) The Nippy sports was the first quantityproduced sports car to be made by Austin.
