... SPORTS TWO-SEATER The Volvo sports twoseater is fitted with a plastic body and an engine developing 70 b.h.p. It has a max speed of 155 k.p* hi The cars which are at present in existence are pro^oi:ype.s. The car is expected to go into production sometime during the autumn at the rate of 1 unit per day. The price has not yet been fixed but it has been rumoured that it will be around 20,000:- Sw. Kr. WHY HAS VOLVO DECIDED TO MANUFACTURE A CAR WITH A PLASTIC BODY? Volvo wants to find out whether plastic is a suitable material for building bodies. Little is yet known regarding its suita bility and applications to car production. Eirst and foremost, no one - knows whether it is possible to make a family saloon of this material but Volvo wants to be in the forefront when it is a question of gaining experience with a new material such as plastic. The Volvo twoseater is going on a demonstration tour in the country beginning June 8th. The body is made of reinforced plastic. This consists of se veral layers of glass fibre'mats and woven glass which are bon ded together by plastic. The body is painted with, ordinary cel lulose paint. PLASTIC BODIES ARE TO BE MANUFACTURED IN SWEDEN The first few bodies have been purchased in the United States and have been shipped knockdowni and assembled at the Volvo plant in Sweden.
