... even with its most keen competitors. Viewed aesthetically and mechanically, these changes have made the new Beta Saloon into almost a different car. The new bodywork lines testify the functional research carried out by the Pininfarina stylists in cooperation with those at Lancia. The rear of the car featuring a more recessed and steeply angled window provides excellent visibility from every side. The waistline is lower giving way to larger windows and better visibility all round. The interior too has been renewed. New velvetlike cloth upholstery covers the redesigned seats and the door trim panels. A new cushioned matt facia surrounds the instrumenta tion featuring new colouring. So like the redesigned steering wheel and gearlever knob, the new glove box, the wall to wall carpeting, the rubber floor mat and felted walls of the boot. As with other models in this range, the Beta saloon includes comprehensive appointments such as the fivespeed gearbox, the electronic clock and rev. counter, the rear heated window and so on. Outstanding among the optional equipment available is the precise and sensitive power assisted steering specially suited for 2000 cc. front wheel drive operation.
