... 2 - MroE.R.Shalts, Robinson's 30 year old director in charge of technical development and a former Leyland foundry executive, has spent five years working on the development of aluminium alloy wheels. He says: "This wheel performed brilliantly in fatigue tests, and its advantages in use are considerable. The high conductivity of the alloy together with the cooling fins incorporated in the design dissipate heat from brakes and tyres with remarkable efficiency. A high ductility factor gives the driver a very satisfying damping effect that is more than comparable with wire wheels - in fact the comparisons we have made with wire wheels are favourable in every respect. "The finished weight of each wheel is less than 15 lbs., which means a big reduction in unsprung weight and turning inertia as compared with conventional wheels, "There is no counteracting disadvantage. We have proved that a correctly designed alloy wheel is stronger than its pressed steel equivalent." NOTE?
