Four-wheel drive was no longer new at Volkswagen in 1989, but the fact that the VW Golf was raised and given a brute off-road vehicle look was still something of a sensation. The result even went into series production and drove quite convincingly, even if the high-traction VW Golf Country was more suitable for asphalt and gravel than for rough terrain. This report is about one of the surviving VW Golf Country, tells its story and shows it in many illustrations and in the sales literature of the time.
