With the S.S. One, the young William Lyons amazed English car buyers in 1931. For comparatively little money, he offered a dynamic-looking, elegant sports car. With constant further development and new vehicle variants, Lyons managed to sell 4,200 of these vehicles by 1936. The Tourer appeared as a four-seater convertible in 1933. This vehicle report describes the history of the S.S. One and portrays a Tourer from 1933 in detail, supplemented by sales documents and historical images.
In 1935, S.S. Cars Ltd, Coventry, was an active but still small manufacturer of sports car-like vehicles. However, the S.S. 90 catapulted the company straight into sports car heaven and the SS 100 cemented its reputation for being able to offer competitive sports cars at a fraction of the price of other top products. Although only a few hundred examples were built, today the SS 100 (and its predecessor) is one of the best-known pre-war vehicles of all time. In this report, the author summarizes the history of the SS Jaguar 100. The review is illustrated with present-day and historical photos as well as four original sales brochures, which are rarely seen.
Everyone talks about the Ford Model A as the ideal entry-level car into the pre-war classic car scene: reliable, easy to drive, with a good supply of spare parts and affordable - but also not particularly imaginative. Fortunately, there is another model from England that at least fulfills the first three of these four criteria. This article explains why an SS Jaguar 100 doesn't feel as old as it looks and shows a picture of a 2.5-liter model.
