The Howmet TX was the first turbine car to win an official race, but it was actually only built for advertising purposes. Howmet Inc., now owned by Alcoa, was no stranger to the metalworking industry, at least in the USA. Howmet supplied aluminum, titanium and magnesium, but not complete cars. On the contrary, Howmet was a supplier to the automotive industry. Nevertheless, two independent Howmet racing cars were built in 1967. This report looks back and shows rare photos of the fast turbine car.
