First presented in 1976, the Fiesta has been built over 17 million times to date. The phenomenal success that the Fiesta would become was not foreseeable at the time, as there were at least as many opponents of the first Ford small car as there were supporters. But in the end, and not least thanks to the oil crisis, the new concept prevailed and six generations have been built to date. This report looks back and explains the most important stages of the Bobcat project up to the present day, illustrated with over 50 pictures from the history of the Ford Fiesta.
In 1976, Ford launched its VW Polo competitor, the Fiesta, a year late in the race to win the favor of small car customers. With almost the same dimensions, it offered more space for passengers and a larger trunk. However, the Ford lost out to the VW in other respects. This article reproduces a test report from 1976 from the magazine "hobby" and shows the first Ford Fiesta in historical photos.
