In the early 1950s, Ferrari supplied the fastest cars for those who wanted to win the Mille Miglia. However, these cars were not fast enough for Giannino Marzotto and he sought a remedy, commissioning an aerodynamic coupé body from Fontana to make the car faster and lighter. Between 1949 and 1953, Ferrari and Touring Superleggera built exactly 25 examples of the 166 MM Touring Barchetta.
