BMW builds a DTM racing car and wins the championship at the first attempt. Not just once, not even twice, but four times in 30 years. Their names were BMW 635 CSI, BMW M3 E30 and M3 DTM and M4 DTM respectively. And they couldn't be more different. This report compares the early DTM racing cars from BMW with their modern successors and illustrates the differences with lots of pictures

The BMW M3 E30 became the world's most successful racing touring car of its time. It claimed over 1500 individual victories and 60 national championships. But how does this successful car compare with the BMW M3 E92, which was 25 years younger and raced in the DTM in 2012? This report compares the two racing touring cars and describes driving impressions from the perspective of the two drivers Roberto Ravaglia and Bruno Spengler. The article is illustrated with pictures of both cars and a gallery of the drivers at the time as well as some race impressions.
