Z 1924-1937 - the shortest brand name
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. The Z brand is one of them. The Czechoslovakian brand was once a weapons factory, but soon produced successful two-strokes and later racing models until the great German rearmament in 1938.

The shortest brand name is due to the Zbrojovka AG arms factory founded in Brno in 1918. The spirals circling the letter Z in the brand logo symbolized the twist channels of a gun barrel. The company made its entry into car production in 1924 with the small Disk car with a two-stroke engine (4 cylinders, 598 cm3, 10 hp); all subsequent Z models were also two-stroke engines. In 1926, the Z 18 (2 cylinders, 1005 cm3, 18 hp) appeared, which sold around 2,600 units within five years. This was followed by the upgraded version Z 9 (2 cylinders, 993 cm3, 22 hp). Z also enjoyed success in motor racing and in 1928 two compressor-equipped racing two-seaters in the 1100 cc class (6 cylinders, 12 opposed pistons, 1085 cc, 75 hp) were built on a trial basis and in 1931 two more of the Z 14 type (8 cylinders, 1445 cc, 105 hp).
