VW-Porsche 1969-1975 - People's sports car
Summary
There were around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of them have disappeared. VW-Porsche is one of these vanished brands. The aim of integrating Porsche into the VW Group was to offer an affordable sports car. Various VW-Porsche models were built, but the hoped-for sales figures with the Porsche 914/6 etc. were never achieved.

Now that Porsche is being integrated into the VW Group, there are plans for an affordable sports car that could be available on one platform as both a VW and a Porsche. This is reminiscent of the VW-Porsche 914 launched at the IAA in 1969: like the first Volkswagen, it was a Porsche development and was to become a"people's sports car" using as many VW mass-produced parts as possible. Like the very first Porsche, the VW-Porsche had a mid-engine. The 914 was the air-cooled, 80 hp, 1679 cc four-cylinder boxer from the VW 411 E top-of-the-range saloon with electronic fuel injection. Thanks to the 5-speed gearbox, a top speed of 177 km/h was achieved. There was also the 201 km/h Type 914/6 with an air-cooled, 110 hp 1991 cc six-cylinder boxer engine from the Porsche 911 T. Both were available with Porsche's semi-automatic 4-speed Sportomatic on request.
