George Singer had founded a bicycle factory in Coventry in 1875 and also built motorcycles and motor tricycles from 1901. From 1905, Singer & Co. Ltd. sold four-wheeled cars with three-cylinder engines manufactured under a Lea Francis license, followed by four-cylinder models in 1906. The Singer Ten with 1100 cc engine from 1911 was the breakthrough. A six-cylinder engine was added in 1922, and in 1923 the Ten was fitted with overhead valves. Thanks to the Type Junior with an 847 cc OHC engine and the Ten, which was enlarged to 1300 cc, Singer took third place behind Austin and Morris among England's best-selling car brands in 1928!
