Summary
Instead of postponing the Rétromobile to March, RM/Sotheby's decided to hold the traditional Paris auction on February 2, 2022. On offer were 57 automobiles with a combined value of EUR 24.5 million. Half of these were Ferrari sports cars from the Petitjean collection, almost all of which sold above expectations. However, the surprises of the auctions were a Bugatti EB 110 GT and the Ferrari Meera S by Michelotti. This auction report analyzes the results and shows all the vehicles in pictures.
This article contains the following chapters
- The massively underestimated Ferrari Meera S
- A Bugatti that is becoming increasingly valuable
- The Ferrari sports cars from Petitjean
- Some super classics without horses

Preview (beginning of the article)
Normally, the RM/Sotheby's auction in Paris takes place around the Rétromobile classic car fair. However, while the fair was postponed to March due to the ongoing pandemic, the RM people decided to keep the February date (as did Bonhams) and auction 57 cars worth EUR 24.5 million in the tent on Place Vendôme, as in previous years. In front of a (mask-wearing) audience, but above all in the presence of Internet and telephone bidders eager to spend, 88% of the vehicles were sold for a total of EUR 23.6 million (CHF 24.5 million). On average, EUR 471,763 (CHF 490,634) was realized per car, slightly more than expected. In fact, bids rose on average to 105 percent of the median estimate, which is rather unusual for auctions in Europe.
