RM/Sotheby's Munich 2023 - Tuning vehicles in demand, super classics less so
Summary
RM/Sotheby's auctioned 68 cars with an average age of 36 years at Motorworld in Munich on November 25, 2023. 59 vehicles (87%) were sold, not least thanks to a high no-reserve percentage of over 60%, although many of the highest bids were well below expectations. The most expensive cars were a Ferrari Daytona Spider, a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and a practically new BMW 3.0 CSL. The surprise of the day, however, was a tuning car from the 1980s. This auction review analyzes the results in detail and shows a picture of each vehicle.

Preview (beginning of the article)
68 cars, two Ferrari tool sets and a Schumacher photo were up for sale at the RM/Sotheby's auction on November 25, 2023 at Motorworld in Munich. Four cars, including the Ferrari Enzo from 2004, had already been withdrawn before the auction began. According to observers, the preview was quieter than before, which had caused some concern. Nevertheless, 87 percent of the cars were ultimately sold to new owners. Of the total estimated EUR 21.5 million, EUR 15.6 million was realized. EUR 264,898 was quoted as the selling price for each car sold. 62% of all cars were offered without a reserve price. That was not without risk. And in fact, 25% of the cars were knocked down for 70% or less of the average estimate.
