Preview (beginning of the article)
RM Sotheby's put 153 vehicles, including a motorcycle, and a few automobiles under the hammer during the Monterey Week surrounding the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elégance on August 15 and 16, 2025. The vehicles had been estimated in advance at around USD 178 million, meaning an average of USD 1.16 million per car was expected. 134 vehicles (88%) were sold, for an average of USD 1.289 million. On average, almost 96% of the average estimate was offered. However, the bidding ranged from 36% to 650%! The most expensive car at the auction was not one of the super classics from Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini, Porsche or Ferrari, but a brand new Ferrari Daytona SP3 "Tailor Made" from 2025. Ferrari added another example to the sold-out production of 599, painted it in two colors and auctioned it off for the benefit of "The Ferrari Foundation". RM Sotheby's had given an estimate of USD 3.5 million or more in advance.
