"Driving into Summer" was the name of RM/Sotheby's online-only auction, which ran from May 21 to 29, 2020. In contrast to other auction houses, there was no live event at all and only online bidding was permitted. Anyone who assumed that it would not be possible to sell a Ferrari 288 GTO or a Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II this way was mistaken. A total of 113 of the 193 vehicles on offer (i.e. 59 percent) successfully changed hands, even though only 18 percent of the lots were offered without a reserve price. The average bid amount also showed that buyers are open to the online-only approach. This auction report summarizes and analyses the results of the auction.
