This brand changed from De Dietrich to Lorraine-Dietrich to Lorraine. In 1897, the De Dietrich railroad carriage factory in Lunéville, Lorraine (= Lorraine, German Empire) began to manufacture cars under various licenses. Ettore Bugatti worked as a designer from 1902 to 1904. In 1905, the name Lorraine-Dietrich was introduced with the Lorraine double cross as the logo. The company successfully focused on racing cars with displacements of up to 17 liters and on the luxury class. Isotta Fraschini was briefly taken over in 1907. With automobile production now concentrated in Argenteuil, Seine-et-Oise, four-cylinder models with a displacement of 2 to 8.3 liters (40 CV) and an output of up to 85 hp were produced until 1914. Aircraft engines were also constructed.
