As soon as you hear about Steve McQueen's movie "Le Mans", images of it pop up in your memory. The palpitations at the start, the rattling Porsche and Ferrari cars, the gigantic accident, the night shots and so on and so forth. There are also a few behind-the-scenes stories. Jo Siffert and Derek Bell were there, and David Piper lost a lower leg after an accident. A racing car with heavy cameras drove in the 1970 race and was of course forced to make many additional pit stops just to change the film reels. Most people know all this. But no one probably ever thinks about the catering that had to be organized for the three months of filming in Le Mans.
