As part of Monterey Car Week in California, Gooding & Co. auctioned off a large number of valuable collector vehicles on August 19 and 20, 2022. The offer included 154 cars and two motorcycles with an estimated total value of around USD 163 million. 83 percent of the vehicles were sold for a total of around USD 106 million, the most expensive being a 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante for USD 10.35 million. Surprises included an MGA Twin-Cam and a Porsche 964 RSR 3.8, but some cars also sold for less than half their estimated value. As part of Monterey Car Week in California, Gooding auctioned 154 cars and two motorcycles with a total value of around USD 163 million (according to estimates) on August 19 and 20, 2022. 35% of the vehicles were offered without a reserve price. The sales rate after the two auction days was ultimately just under 83%, with proceeds (including surcharge/commission) totaling USD 105,713,620. On average, 88% of the median estimate was bid at the very well-attended auction. The average age at the Gooding auction was almost 56 years, but pre-war cars were very well represented with 27 cars. They also made up some of the most valuable lots. The highest bids averaged 85.4% of the median estimate. Only 67% of the very old cars found a new owner.
