Summary
The 44th International Motor Show in Geneva, which took place from March 14 to 24, 1974, was not under a good star due to the oil crisis and inflationary tendencies. The few real innovations somewhat concealed the fact that almost three quarters of the vehicles on show had been more or less extensively modified or renewed compared to the previous year. The focus was on vehicle safety as an important special topic. This trade fair report looks back at the 1974 Motor Show and shows the range on display in over 170 pictures.

The 44th International Motor Show in Geneva, which took place from March 14 to 24 , 1974, was not under a good star. The 1973 oil crisis had caused vehicle sales in Switzerland to shrink considerably, and new speed limits and the threat of saturation in the motorization level did not necessarily encourage people to buy a new car. In many respects, 1974 can be seen as a year of change. The hippie era came to an end, punks and the disco sound began to inspire music listeners. The Exorcist, The Sting ("The Thing") and American Graffiti were showing at the movies, and "Les Gammas", an early attempt at "edutainment", was on TV. The miniskirt was still there, but the jumpsuit was just as fashionable, and shock colors were a new fashion trend, not least because of the advent of color television.
