Summary
The International Motor Show in Geneva took place from 14 to 24 March 1963 and offered a comprehensive showcase of the motorization of the time. There were over 20 world premieres to admire, including the Mercedes Benz 230 SL, the ATS 2500 GT, the Chevrolet Corvair Testudo, the Simca 1300/1500 and the Opel Rekord. This exhibition report describes the atmosphere, setting and range of the 33rd Geneva Motor Show and shows the exhibited vehicles in over 180 pictures, some of which have never been published before.

In 1963, car manufacturers, salespeople and prospective car buyers looked hopefully to Geneva. The year 1962 had seen a sharp increase in registrations, with Volkswagen leading the way in Switzerland with over 20% of cars sold, followed by General Motors with its spearhead Opel, Ford, Fiat, British Motor Company BMC, Peugeot, Simca, Daimler-Benz (incl. Auto Union), Citroën/Panhard and Renault. Together, these suppliers accounted for 88% of the total market. Mass-produced models and new models were at the top of the list of new registrations, so it was no wonder that everyone was eager to see the premieres on show in Geneva. And there were also many world, European and Swiss premieres.
