Crosley 1939-1952 - US Tiny
Summary
There have been around 10,000 car brands and designers - most of which have disappeared. Crosley, founded by Powel Crosley Jr, can also be counted among these vanished brands. In export, Crosley was called Crosmobile and its first car went into series production in 1939 as the "car of the future". Others followed until 1952, when demand declined and the money ran out.

Powel Crosley Jr. became the world's largest radio manufacturer in the 1920s and later also produced the first refrigerators with shelves on the inside of the door. Having become a multimillionaire, Crosley worked on his idea of a minimal car in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1934; this went into series production in 1939 as the "car of the future". The tiny car, which weighed less than 450 kg, was powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder engine with 580 cm3 and 12, later 15 hp. A number of teething troubles had to be overcome and in 1942 an OHC four-cylinder engine with 725 cm3, which had also been purchased, was introduced. By that year, 5,760 convertibles, sedans and estate cars had been sold, some of them through department stores.
