Bonhams Zoute Auction 2023 - Orange in vogue, Ferrari and Bugatti in demand

Bonhams put 96 cars, a selection of motorcycles and children's cars as well as some automobilia under the hammer on October 8, 2023 on the occasion of the Zoute Grand Prix in Knokke-Heist in Belgium. The "Orange Collection" of young Aston Martins sold above expectations, while the Ferrari and Bugatti cars also did well, all of which found new owners. Once again, the auction house Bonhams supported the Zoute Grand Prix and Concours with an auction on Sunday, October 8, 2023. 96 cars, a selection of motorcycles and children's cars as well as some automobilia were offered. The cars were valued at a total of EUR 34.1 million and were on average almost 41 years old. 54 percent of the cars went under the hammer without a reserve price. 79 of the cars (82%) were sold for a total of EUR 26.8 million. On average, almost 94% of the median estimate was bid. On average, buyers paid almost EUR 339,000 per car. The most valuable car at the auction was a Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta "Tour de France" from 1959 with chassis number 1401GT. This long-wheelbase coupé was the 77th car of this type to be built. The first owner was Luigi Taramazzo from Italy. He drove it in Monza on June 29, 1959 and finished ninth, then won the Garessio-Colle San Bernado hill climb on July 19, 1959. He then sold the car to Gérard Spinedi from Geneva. The latter entered the car in the Marchairuz and Vaduz-Triesenberg hillclimb races, finishing second twice. Spinedi also actively used the car in the following year, including at the Rallye de Genève and the Mitholz-Kandersteg hill climb. He also competed in the Coupes des Alpes, finishing 12th in the GT class.
