Preview (beginning of the article)
It's never easy to be the first. Bonhams, however, opened the Scottsdale auction week in keeping with tradition with an offering of 115 classics with an estimated value of almost USD 31 million. The bidders turned up in large numbers, but proved to be choosy and not as generous as hoped in all cases. The 115 lots were spread across 42 brands, so variety was the order of the day. Porsche was most strongly represented with 21 cars, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 10 vehicles and 10 Ferraris, if you include the Dino. Six Aston Martins and five Jaguars and Chevrolets completed the list of outstanding brands, as the others were represented by no more than three cars. For example, there was a glass Goggomobil, a Toyota, a Hispano Suiza and an MG for sale.
