Preview (beginning of the article)
Bonhams organizes an auction of classic vehicles as part of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, as it did on Friday, 12 July 2024. In addition to a few license plates and numerous automobilia (as well as children's cars), 71 cars with a total value of almost £ 19.3 million were on offer. 16% of the vehicles were offered without a reserve price, and on average the cars were around 51 years old. After more than four hours, which is how long the auction of the 71 cars lasted, 61% of the vehicles were sold, while 28 cars were left standing. Both the auctioneers and the bidders proved to have a sense of humor, because when things suddenly move forward in increments of 1,000 at over £300,000, observers are somewhat surprised, especially as the car in question was a Bentley R-Type Continental.
