Every year for the past 62 years, a passenger car has been named "Car of the Year" (COTY). The winners include staid family saloons, but also sports cars and real technology innovators ... and - now a matter of course - electric cars. Our article shows all the winners from 1964 to 2026 and names the top three in each year. In 2026, Mercedes-Benz managed to win the title for the second time since 1974, this time with the CLA. Second place goes to the Skoda Elroq, third place to the Kia EV4.
