Spending my vacation in warmer climes and devoting myself to the culture and history of the host country was my wife's idea and thus the origin of this story. This also explains why I woke up the next day in a hotel room in Malta after an unspectacular flight. Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs and the Knights of St. John all left their mark on Malta and the islands of Gozo and Comino. There hasalways been greatinterest in the strategically interesting location in the center of theMediterranean. And yes, of course I was eager to see all this, even though I was a little more interested in the island's revived wine-growing industry, which is also a cultural achievement.
