Preview (beginning of the article)
This was not the first time that the Paris-based auction company Artcurial invited its customers to Monaco on July 2, 2017 to find new owners for 120 cars and two Riva boats. The total value of the vehicles on offer amounted to EUR 24.4 million (CHF 26.6 million), but not quite that much was achieved. However, it was not to be that much. Although a total of around EUR 18.6 million was offered, only 51% of the lots were sold, for a total turnover of EUR 10 million (CHF 10.9 million) including commission/surcharges. Sometimes all it takes is the right constellation of bidders and perhaps an exceptionally well-preserved car. The 1993 Peugeot 205 Roland Garros Cabriolet probably had both, as the bids for the little car rose to EUR 21,000, exceeding expectations by 40%.
