Alois Barmettler (= Albar) from Buochs was one of Europe's most successful buggy manufacturers. In 1981, he became a Pw manufacturer with the Jet two-seater coupé shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The GRP body came from Custoca in Austria and was also based on the VW Beetle platform frame. In 1982, Albar surprised everyone in Geneva with its own Sonic design, a wedge-shaped coupé, 420 cm long, 196 cm wide and 112 cm low. Its Beetle platform could be fitted with a 1.3 to 2.8 liter rear engine. A lowerable flap in the front end revealed six headlights. The front section and windshield were in line, the roof was removable and the rear had a distinctive wing. The Sonic, equipped with scissor doors, was also available as a 2+2 and as a kit.
